SIMCOCK BEMUSED BY DREAM NIGHTMARE

The Diktat colt was sent off the even-money favourite to follow up his brilliant success in the July Cup, but he trailed home seventh of the 13 runners.
The fact Genki, who was fourth in France, easily reversed the Newmarket form with Dream Ahead has led Simcock to believe his star turn was not himself, although he is struggling to determine why that was the case.
He said: "It was a very disappointing performance, and I've got no real excuses.
"He ran flat and it wasn't his day. There was no zip and there was certainly no acceleration.
"We'll take a blood test off him and scope him when he canters, but I'd be very surprised if we found anything.
"I've watched the race a million and one times and I'd love to have an excuse, but I really haven't got one at the moment.
"He travels very well and the ground was not a problem. I think the easiest way to summarise is that Genki ran very well to finish fourth and we had Genki three lengths back in the July Cup.
"William (Buick) said everything was fine for two furlongs but after that he just said he got no response whatsoever.
"The fact that we finished seventh, beaten seven lengths, has left us scratching our heads."
Dream Ahead will now drop back in trip half a furlong for the Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock on September 3.
"We'll go to Haydock and the plan will stay the same. It's the obvious route and hopefully he can go there and stay unbeaten at six furlongs, that's the way I'm going to look at it," Simcock told At The Races.
