CHINTA THE COMEBACK KING

Bapak Chinta is in rude health for his toughest test yet in the Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday after coming through his last serious piece of work in a recent racecourse gallop with flying colours.

Although the unbeaten colt is widely reported to work with older horses as nothing can lead him at home, Bogart's success in the Redcar 2yo Trophy gave a timely reminder of the strength in depth among the juveniles under Ryan's care.

The Norfolk Stakes winner has always been rated by far the superior and there is heightened expectation in the yard he can show his brilliance on the track in what looks a far from vintage Group 1 renewal.

Ryan has not tasted victory at the highest level since Desert Lord won the Abbaye five years ago, but the career highlight was preceded by Amadeus Wolf's landing the 2005 renewal of the Middle Park.

With such a proven track record, the bullish noises from the yard need to be taken very seriously and punters should not be put off backing him by the late setback which ruled him out of the Nunthorpe.

On routine exercise two days before the race he knocked a hind leg and the regrettable decision was taken not to risk him in his crack against the elder sprinters on the Knavesmire.

Forced to miss a few days sitting in his box, it was nothing more than a superficial injury and his work since has left connections eager to make up for lost time off the back of an ideal preparation.

Stable jockey Philip Makin sees tackling the extra furlong as a positive as his mount found more when Boomerang Blade moved up to challenge at Royal Ascot on the unsuitable slow ground.

Drying conditions at HQ only add to stable confidence of a bold show, even allowing for a collateral form line through the Norfolk Stakes second making French raider Family One rate a serious danger.

However, it all points to a maximum bet on Kevin Ryan's crack sprinter to gain consolation for missing the Nunthorpe, a race the trainer has never won but has twice saddled the runner-up.

Jump to it for Cesarewitch winner

The 'natural order' in the Cesarewitch of NH trainers upstaging their Flat counterparts has been turned on its head in the last two renewals with victories for Brian Meehan and David Simcock.

However, the hard luck story of last year's race was undoubtedly Sentry Duty whose route through the field to finish seventh was the subject of heated debate at Nicky Henderson's Open day last week.

Olivier Peslier was the villain of the piece forfeiting a good draw and setting the stayer too much to do and Henderson now turns to Johnny Murtagh to put the record straight.

Off a 5lb lower mark and kept fresh for his consolation bid, he looks a better value bet to give Henderson a third success in the staying prize drawn in stall 1 than stablemate, Veiled, out in box 22.

A saver is recommended on David Pipe's first string Beyond, who is viewed in the yard as the horse best equipped to make up for near misses with Mamlook in 2008 and 2009.

Pipe senior won the Cesarewitch with Heros Fatal (2000) and Miss Fara (2002) but the new man at the helm had to settle for second and third placings with Mamlook two years running.

Beyond proved the potential was there for staying trips winning over hurdles for Evan Williams and he has since made an instant return on the switch to Pipe scoring at Sandown on the Flat over 1m6f.

Looking stronger the further he went, he has been laid out for this and Pipe moved quickly to snap up William Buick for his well drawn runner in stall 3 who is expected to go close if he stays the marathon trip.

Tom no doubter of Chachamaidee's class

The fitting of a hood to Chachamaidee has seen her make rapid strides this season rising through the ranks to chase home Sahpressa in the Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes last time.

Although no match for the winner, she now drops down to Group 2 company against the colts in the Challenge Stakes on her return to Newmarket and Tom Queally is reportedly very sweet on this filly.

She is still working well and will be suited by coming back a furlong in trip as her free going nature brought about her downfall on her previous start in third behind the John Oxx-trained Alanza.

Queally felt he got to the front too soon at Doncaster, where he was forced to make his move too early when racing away from the pack and ending up being a sitting duck for the closers.

Recommendations:

Saturday:
2.05 Newmarket: Chachamaidee
2.35 Newmarket: Bapak Chinta (nap)
3.50 Newmarket: Sentry Duty & Beyond (split stakes)
