MAKIN MONEY NETS POUR RELATION

1855: Plenty of late action for Ferguson who lands a Dubawi colt (Lot 164) for 250,000.

1845: Another New Approach colt is knocked down to Ferguson for 500,000 guineas.

1830: Sheikh Mohammed's bloodstock advisor John Ferguson swoops with a winning 450,000 bid for Lot 151, a New Approach colt out of Ladeena.

1815: Makin's at it again as he purchases Lot 144, a son of Pivotal out of Kitty Matcham - a daughter of Rock Of Gibraltar who won the Rockfel. He goes for 360,000.

1755: An Oasis Dream colt from the good Meon Valley Stud family of Colorspin, Kayf Tara and Opera House is a slow burner but gets there. He goes for 700,000 to John Magnier.

1720: The Coolmore supremo now goes to 400,000 for a Galieo filly who is closely related to The Great Gatsby.

1714: Magnier is busy now and pays 320,000 for an Oasis Dream filly from the family of Key Change.

1708: The three-parts sister to Pour Moi remains the day's headline act and Paul Makin, who paid 800,000 for her, told www.tattersalls.com: ""We have seen this filly a lot, in fact just two days before Pour Moi won the Derby when she was at Ashtown House. I have no idea who will train her, but the pair will go from here to Di Turner's pre-training yard. Neither are going to be early types, and they might even stay there until March."

1703: A Duke Of Marmalade filly from the family of Inchinor attracts plenty of interest before being knocked down to John Magnier for 220,000.

1628: A half-brother to James Fanshawe's Golden Jubilee winner Society Rock finds his way to bloodstock agent Gill Richardson for 42,000. Consignors Ballyhimikin Stud would surely have hoped for more. Like Dylan Thomas, his sire Duke Of Marmalade doesn't seem to have caught the imagination.

1618: ...and settles at a round 800,000. The lucky owner is Paul Makin, taking his expenditure to nearly one million guineas in a matter of 20 minutes. Makin bought Lot 105, the Galileo half-brother to Alfred Nobel, encouraged by Tom Pritchard-Gordon of Badgers Bloodstock.

"My blood was up to buy this filly," Makin told www.tattersalls.com. 'When Lot 105 was going through for just 120,000gns, Tom came to find me to say that the horse was going through too cheaply. We came in and bought for 155,000gns. It got my blood up," he joked.

"We have seen this filly a lot, in fact just two days before Pour Moi won the Derby when she was at Ashtown House. I have no idea who will train her, but the pair will go from here to Di Turner's pre-training yard. Neither are going to be early types, and they might even stay there until March," he said, adding that the filly will eventually join his broodmare band.

Grant Pritchard-Gordon added: "It seems to be a very solid catalogue, with some good individuals," before Makin concluded: "There are 50 horses that you would buy!"

1616: ...now 775,000....

1614: A three-parts sister to Derby winner Pour Moi is currently going through the ring. Bidding is up to 650,000 so far....

1611: A half-brother to Criterium International winner Zafisio, Lot 109, is knocked down to Sheikh Mohammed's bloodstock advisor John Ferguson for 220,000 guineas.

1559: Lot 105, a half-brother to Alfred Nobel attracts some stuttering interest but perhaps not as much as might have been hoped for the son of Galileo. Eventually it's Badgers Bloodstock, acting for Paul Makin, who pick him up for 155,000.

1550: A Henrythenavigator colt, and half-brother to Footstepsinthesand, is worth 150,000 guineas to John Magnier.

1547: Another potential blot as a brother to Gitano Hernando is picked up by Ralph Beckett for a relatively paltry 60,000.

1540: After a relatively quiet spell, Lot 101 gets the juices flowing again, and once again it's a son of Invincible Spirit. His dam is a sister to Elusive Quality and his new owners have to go to 240,000 guineas. It turns out that they're not new owners though, as it's consignor Voute Sales who are responsible.

1520: The auctioneer blows out his cheeks as a full brother to Presvis goes to Shadwell for 75,000 guineas. He's not the only one who thinks that could be a bargain.

1520: Big Red Farm, a Japanese stud, pick up Lot 89, a Tamayuz colt, for a tidy 150,000. Second dam Silca-Cisa has produced seven winners from eight runners.

1513: Another Invincible Spirit colt proves popular, with Lot 87 fetching 280,000 guineas. This time it's Angus Gold for Shadwell Park who wins the bidding war.

1509: A Dansili half-brother to Arc fourth Best Name, consigned by Newsells Park Stud, goes to John Magnier for 480,000. That's the second highest priced colt of the day so far and an interesting one going back to Ballydoyle, especially as Magnier saw off John Ferguson in the bidding war.

1501: A Pivotal sister to Needwood Blade, from a hardy and successful family, is knocked down to Tom Goff and Blandford Bloodstock for 250,000.

1500: Ross Doyle picks up a Teofilo colt, Lot 76, for 240,000 guineas.

"He is a lovely big colt," Doyle tells www.tattersalls.com. "The sire is getting some good winners and is producing lovely big types."

Although stood with Richard Hannon jnr and owner Andrew Tinkler, Doyle reported that neither the trainer nor an owner for the colt had yet been decided.

1435: Once again it's a Galileo filly who sets the pulses racing as Lot 72 is knocked down for 400,000. Granddam Darara won the Prix Vermeille and has produced the outstanding duo of Dar Re Mi and Rewilding so no surprise she proved popular. She is bought by Michael Youngs, who was standing at the top of the stairs with trainer John Gosden.

1429: Middleham action as Mark Johnston is getting jiggy. Lot 69 is out of Queen's Vase winner Endorsement and, with family members including Mores Wells and Galient, he looks worth the 110,000 paid.

1423: Lot 66 is knocked down to Charlie Gordon-Watson for 240,000. This time it's a Dalakhani filly, a full sister to Prix Marcel Boussac fourth Wedding March. It's another big purchase and he may need to fetch a second cheque book soon, as he's principally acting for Nurlan Bizakov. "She is a good filly with a good step," Gordon-Watson tells www.tattersalls.com. He also bought Lot 14, the Dalakhani filly out of Chinese White, for Hesmonds.

1416: Ed Dunlop dips his toe into the water for a son of Cape Cross. At 72,000, Lot 64 is a sight more expensive than his star filly Snow Fairy was picked up for in Ireland, but if he's a tenth as successful then he'll be a bargain.

1408: Ross Doyle in action again, picking up Lot 60, a half-brother to Andrew Balding's Chef. The son of Kyllachy attracted plenty of interest and was eventually knocked down for 220,000.

1359: A busy spell for John Ferguson who again supports a pairof Darley sires, Dubawi and New Approach, taking back a couple of colts for a total of almost 300,000 Guineas.

1346: Bidding quite slow to warm up but eventually a three parts brother to Nathaniel goes for 195,000 to Mark Johnston. Being by Galileo out of a Danehill mare, the same cross as Frankel, one might have expected him to make a tad more.

1326: After a quiet spell, a well-balanced son of Elusive Quality makes 190,000. He's knocked down to John Warren.

1305: 200k again, this time for a Street Cry colt, who goes to the Shadwell Estate. No surprise that anything by the sire of Zenyatta is proving popular.

1302: A son of Teofilo goes for an almost standard 200,000 to John Ferguson, the stallion who is part of Sheikh Mohammed's Darley Stud empire.

1258: A Montjeu colt out of Dance Parade predictably proves popular and is heading back to Ballydoyle after John Magnier goes to 520,000 for him. Tom Goff of Blandford Bloodstock, standing with trainer Michael Bell and owner Lawrie Inman, made a bold bid for him but came off second best.

1242: Ross Doyle parts with 200,000 for Lot 29, a daughter of Montjeu from one of the Aga Khan's leading female lines.

1230: News of the early sale topper, the 700,000 daughter of Galileo. Well she's going to Sir Henry Cecil with Alan Cooper, the Niarchos Family's racing manager telling www.tattersalls.com: "She is a full sister to a Classic winner and let's hope this one carries on the family performance."

1222: A New Approach colt from the family of Comic Strip, who went on to be come a leading performer in Hong Kong, is Hamdan Al Maktoum's first purchase, his racing manager Angus Gold going to 220,000 guineas.

1211: Bit more news from Lot two, who fetched 260,000 guineas. She was bought by Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalifa Al Thani of Umm Qarn Stud. Sheikh Abdullah is father of Sheikh Fahad, owner of Makfi and of Pearl Bloodstock and he saw off a determined John Magnier.

Qatar trainer Alban de Mieulle was bidding on his behalf and told www.tattersalls.com: "She is going to the Sheikh's stable in France and will be trained by Freddie Head."

1209: Gordon-Watson also goes to 225,000 for an American bred daughter of Arch and Chocolate Mauk.

1207: Charlie Gordon-Watson, who's clients include new Hesmonds Stud owner Nurlan Bizakov, pays 400,000 for a full-sister to Chinese White.

1205: A Lemon Drop Kid filly from the family of Roderic O'Connor fetches 150,000.

1200: Fireworks with a full-sister to Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Nightime being knocked down to Alan Cooper, racing manager to the Niarchos Family, for 700,000 guineas.

1142: The very next lot, an Oasis Dream half-brother to Cape Of Good Hope goes for 170,000 to Sheikh Mohammed's bloodstock advisor John Ferguson.

11:40 It didn't take long for the first six-figure lot at the Tattersalls Book One sale. A daughter of Galileo from the family of Alhaarth and Makfi (lot two) fetching 260,000 guineas.
