SAMITAR TEAM EYE CLASSIC SUCCESS

Connections of Samitar are targeting next season's 1000 Guineas following the filly's sales race success at Newmarket last weekend.

Mick Channon's charge advertised her durability with victory in the £300,000 contest just over a week after she was narrowly touched off in the Fillies' Mile.

While Samitar would have held leading claims in the Prix Marcel Boussac in France last Sunday, Channon believes the current economic climate meant it was an easy choice to chase the big money at home.

"She only cost 39,000 guineas and she's won over £250,000 for the owners now. You can knock the sales races from a purist's perspective, but now they can go again next year and look for another one," said Channon.

"The Boussac at Longchamp was worth 20 grand less than the sales race so we had to go to Newmarket as it was a penalty kick on paper.

"Everyone is affected by the economic situation we find ourselves in today and we have to be sensible.

"The filly has proved what she's capable of in Pattern races and Saturday was all about the money which will be reinvested into bloodstock.

"Further afield, Samitar looks like a Guineas filly and that's the plan from here.

"She'll probably be wrapped up for the season now. We have to spend a winter waiting for the Trials in April now."

Channon was also on the mark in a Listed race at Redcar with Chilworth Lad who teed himself up for a trip to Dubai.

"We all want to go to Dubai and travel the world and that's what we'll do in the new year. He'll make his debut at the Carnival at Meydan and will no doubt give the lads an awful lot of fun," Channon told his website.
