DOUBLE: Links Drive Lady and Christmas Light

Links Drive Lady can end a maddening sequence of results in the Greta & Terry Stray 50th Wedding Anniversary Fillies' Handicap at Leicester.

The three-year-old filly, trained in Newmarket by the unheralded Mark Rimmer, has been in good form this term, but is still a maiden from 11 starts.

That said, she perhaps came as close as ever to breaking the hex at Leicester a couple of weeks ago when only worried it out of it at the death.

That was a really sound effort, especially given Links Drive Lady lost ground at the start, but Rimmer is possibly right in dropping her slightly in distance as she was growing a shade weary over seven furlongs.

The daughter of Striking Ambition remains appealing weighted and should have conditions loaded in her favour.

The Squirrel Conditions Stakes looks no easy conundrum in which to master, despite there only being three runners, but narrow preference is for Repeater.

Sir Mark Prescott's juvenile did the job with a trace of style at Ripon last month and seems to be crying out for this far longer trip.

Stayers to the fore in the Skyram Handicap at Catterick, where Jinto has a fine opportunity in which to regain the winning touch.

David Elsworth's four-year-old has shaped with much promise since disappointing at Warwick in June, but has still failed to find the winner's enclosure in four subsequent starts.

The step up to exacting distances has clearly eked out further progress, however, as demonstrated by second-placed finishes at Yarmouth and Kempton.

Jinto is again not the most trustworthy of fellows - he seemed to hang pretty badly at Kempton - but is by some way one of the most appealing horses in a rather exposed-looking line-up.

He is also still in contention competing off a mark of 58.

A chance can also be given to Christmas Light in the Go Racing In Yorkshire Handicap over just shy of a mile and a half.

The four-year-old filly has, in theory, struggled since winning in really determined style at Redcar in July.

In practice, though, the ground has really not looked in her favour on two subsequent outings.

In any event, she is now just 2lb higher than when last victorious and is unlikely to encounter soft ground in North Yorkshire.

It is perfectly feasible, certainly from what we have seen so far, to suggest Christmas Light could be even more capable over this longer trip.

The all-weather wagon chugs along to Southwell, where Graycliffe is an interesting entry in the 32Red Handicap.

Nothing was finishing quicker than Jennie Candlish's charge here over a mile last time, with the five-year-old staying on for fourth.

Despite that return to form, the handicapper has curiously relieved 2lb from his back.

With confidence now restored, Graycliffe can make a successful return to a mile and a half in what looks a pretty awful race.

Await The Dawn is a worthy favourite for the Juddmonte International Stakes at York.

Ballydoyle's colt is quietly considered as being of Breeders' Cup Classic potential, and gets to showcase his unquestionable gifts on the opening day of the Ebor meeting.

Five victories from six starts perhaps tells its own story as Aidan O'Brien has slowly, but most assuredly, stepped up Await The Dawn from seven furlongs to a mile and a half.

Although he is dropping down two furlongs for this assignment, he has already shown excellent form over a mile and a quarter.

An easy winner of the Kilternan Stakes last September, he then took his game to the next level with a cakewalk in Chester's Huxley Stakes.

Better was to come at Royal Ascot as he defied concerns about soft ground to claim the Hardwicke Stakes by three lengths.

Twice Over and Midday are respected, of course, but Await The Dawn strikes as being firmly on the ascent, and has been preserved for this race since Ascot.

In Twice Over's case, no six-year-old has claimed the International since time immemorial, while a slight negative for Midday is the fact she has yet to win a Group One against the opposite sex.

And, as an added incentive, O'Brien has won two of the last three renewals of this keynote Group One, with Await The Dawn already comparing favourably to Rip Van Winkle (2010) and Duke of Marmalade (2009).

It should be a fine afternoon for the Coolmore gang, with Seville taken to do the business in the Great Voltigeur Stakes.

O'Brien's tough three-year-old has more than paid his way this term, with second-placed finishes in the Grand Prix de Paris, the Irish Derby and the Dante.

His one mishap this year was in the Epsom Derby, but he would not be alone in having not shown his true form in the premier Classic.

With the Irish Derby form having been royally advertised at the weekend thanks to Treasure Beach's heroics, few rivals here, perhaps with the exception of Sea Moon, come close to matching Seville's profile.

A solid show at York will further galvanise his already powerful claims in next month's Ladbrokes St Leger.

Outgoing veteran Barry Hills can enjoy one last hurrah before passing on the baton to his son, Charlie, when Balty Boys contests the sportingbet.com Acomb Stakes.

The Wetherdown House team simply adore this juvenile, who blew away his opponents in a competitive Newbury maiden last month.

This is admittedly a big step up in class, but the Cape Cross colt, partly owned by Sir Alex Ferguson, remains a creature of limitless potential.

Secret Asset is certainly not that calibre of thoroughbred, but should at least give punters plenty to think about in the Symphony Group Stakes.

Jane Chapple-Hyam's sprinter turned in a fine effort in the Stewards' Cup, in which he was badly wrong at the weights, when seventh behind Hoof It.

Before that he looked rejuvenated when easily claiming quite a good handicap at Goodwood.

Secret Asset is 3lb better off than in the Stewards' Cup, and has clearly hit his stride this summer.

But of greatest importance to each-way players is that he will hopefully be available at most generous odds.

Es Que Love, well-backed runner-up at Goodwood last time, holds logical claims in the sportingbet.com Stakes, with Club Oceanic looking a pretty exciting prospect for the Patrington Haven Leisure Park Stakes.

Control Chief can get off the mark in the Racing Here Again 28th September Maiden Stakes at Nottingham, while Muqtarrib looks a decent shout in the Personnel Health & Safety Consultants Maiden Stakes at Folkestone.

It would also be a surprise if Present Danger were not to run with credit in the Butchers Arms Lyvennet Community Pub Fillies' Handicap at Carlisle.

DOUBLE: Excelebration and Addictive Dream

Excelebration looks poised to take advantage of a handy weight allowance in the CGA Hungerford Stakes at Newbury.

Much has been made of the dominance of three-year-olds this season, with Marco Botti's representative taken to follow the trend in Berkshire.

The Exceed And Excel colt has made quite a splash in six careers starts, with a runaway victory in the German 2000 Guineas the unquestionable highlight.

That said, perhaps his two efforts in defeat against Frankel deserve to be polarised with even greater magnitude.

Although he might have been flattered to get to within two and a quarter lengths of Sir Henry Cecil's brilliant colt in the St James's Palace Stakes, the ground in which he made up following a tardy start was rather beguiling.

As, too, was his effort in the Greenham over this course and distance, when he was the only horse in the field who could get to within the same parish of Frankel (the third home, Shropshire, was another six lengths away).

That form alone puts him bang in the frame for this assignment, but the fact he gets upwards of 2lb from nine of 11 rivals adds further resonance to his case.

Three-year-olds tend to do well in the Hungerford, with Botti also taking no chances by deploying a pacemaker.

Just like in virtually every other race that has been competed this season, the royal formlines with Frankel are unlikely to be devalued after this Group Two affair.

The Michael Owen-owned Brown Panther is sure to be popular in the CGA Geoffrey Freer Stakes, but a value preference is for Times Up.

John Dunlop's five-year-old last month made the leap into Pattern company with consummate ease, having just been denied in a Group Two in France last time.

He was done no favours by a soporific gallop that day, which should not be an issue at Newbury.

Admittedly not a box-office draw, Times Up is nonetheless tough, reliable, and clearly still progressing.

Addictive Dream can be considered a lively outsider for the William Hill Great St Wilfrid Stakes at Ripon.

The four-year-old sprinter has shown a good level of form in similar races this season, but has so far escaped the handicapper's full force.

And while he is 7lb higher than when successful over this course and distance in June, recent efforts would suggest Walter Swinburn's inmate can still win off a mark of 98.

That two-length Ripon triumph a couple of months ago has emerged pretty informative, with the runner-up Grissom, not to mention a host of also-rans, having since struck twice at a decent grade.

Swinburn was left to rue his misfortune at Ascot last weekend when Addictive Dream encountered no end of traffic problems before taking fifth spot.

That display was significant for two reasons, as the ground was quite testing in Berkshire, which may be the case at Ripon, while he also seemed energised by first-time cheekpieces.

Mia's Boy is a worthy ally in the One Call Insurance Handicap at Doncaster.

Chris Dwyer's likeable seven-year-old goes particularly well on Town Moor, and only succumbed by a head to Yaa Wayl at Newbury on his last outing in June.

That was Mia's Boy's first start since December, so he clearly goes well as a fresh horse.

Although he has not won since October 2009, the seven-year-old has gone close in far better races than this over the years, and is still in contention from a handicapping point of view.

Eastern Gift seemingly has plenty in his favour for the Bravo Social Enterprise Handicap on the Lingfield turf, with Blanche Dubawi set to bring home the double in the Premier League Kick Off On Skybet Mobile Stakes at Newmarket.

Wisest wager on Market Rasen's card could be the Henry Daly-trained Art Broker, who runs in the Allinson Print Novices' Hurdle.

The drop in trip looks sure to suit Paul Cole's Rimth in the EBF "Showcasing" Flying Fillies' Stakes at Pontefract on Sunday.

A daughter of Oasis Dream, she has deserved more than her two wins from eight career outings to date.

Since breaking her maiden at the first time of asking at Windsor last May, she has raced almost exclusively in Pattern company, the exception being when she was beaten a nose in a Listed race at Salisbury last September.

She was third in the Lowther between those two runs, and despite not showing her best at Ayr in a Group Three, it was in the Cheveley Park she showed her true colours.

Proving that her run in Scotland was all wrong, she finished in front of a couple who had beaten her at Ayr when beating all bar Hooray, who also won the Lowther.

Treated as a Guineas filly through the winter, those hopes were boosted when she came out and won the Fred Darling on her first start at three.

Cole decided to give Newmarket a miss and aim for the French Classic instead, but she appeared not the stay the mile.

Dropped to seven furlongs at Goodwood most recently she had no chance from stall 15, but ran a blinder to finish fourth in the Oak Tree Stakes.

Back over six furlongs she can get back to winning ways.

Richard Fahey's Kimbali can surely open his account in the British Stallion Studs EBF Trevor Woods Memorial Maiden Stakes.

Second twice already from just two runs, he was a beaten odds-on favourite at Ripon most recently.

However, he lost his chance that day with a tardy start and the winner, who had far more experience, had flown by the time his young jockey got him organised. Compensation awaits.

Fahey's Polar Kite still looks unexposed in the John Hirst - 50th Birthday Handicap.

He found the Britannia Handicap at Ascot a bit too much but previously he had run well behind Sagramor at Haydock. There should be more to come from him.

David O'Meara's War Poet can pick up the winning thread again in the Family Funday Handicap.

He finished in the first three in his first five races but was then possibly outclassed at Haydock in the Old Newton Cup.

Previously he had looked very well suited by the step up to a mile and a half and this is nowhere near as competitive.

Donald McCain's Dunowen Point can defy a penalty in the Turnbull Building And Plumbing Supplies Novices' Chase at Southwell.

Twice a winner over timber, the Old Vic gelding scored first time out over fences at Carlisle.

That was a decent event run at a good pace and his jumping stood up to the test so he looks a fairly smart recruit for this time of year.

Whenever Tim Vaughan books Richard Johnson the hint should be taken and the pair team up with Grand Art in the CMC Cleaning Summer Gala Claiming Hurdle.

Fanunalter can enhance his upwardly mobile profile by scooping another Group Three prize at Salisbury on Thursday.

Marco Botti must be thrilled by the progress of his five-year-old this year following a string of fine performances, both in Dubai and in Britain.

He can again illustrate his well-being in the totepoool Sovereign Stakes over a mile.

Quantity over quality appear watchwords for this year's renewal, in which Fanunalter is arguably the stand-out performer in a 12-runner field.

Although he is burdened with a 3lb penalty following his determined Diomed success at Epsom, his narrow second against Dick Turpin at Ascot last time sets the standard.

Botti will be keen for an arid spell between now and the race, though, for Fanunalter has shown a great fondness for a fast surface.

If that is the case, he deserves to win a Group Three of this nature before stepping back up in class.

Sunday Bess must also be in with a good shout in the EBF "Tobougg" Fillies' Handicap.

Trained in Cheshire by Tom Dascombe, the three-year-old filly has turned in some really encouraging displays this term.

Having finished fourth behind dual Oaks heroine Dancing Rain in a Newbury maiden, she was then probably a little outclassed in a hot renewal of the Cheshire Oaks.

That theory was perhaps emboldened in the Ribblesdale at Royal Ascot.

Interspersed between those efforts, however, was a brave second to Queen's Vase runner-up Solar Sky at Haydock.

There was also nothing wrong with her close-up second behind Mungo Park at Hamilton in a race that is working out well.

Dascombe will be quietly satisfied by the handicapper's revised rating of 76 for this daughter of Deep Impact, who remains quite an exciting prospect from the Manor House supply-line.

Mashaaref also looks to be firmly on the march ahead of the Holden Stud Handicap at Newmarket.

Despite being unraced as a two-year-old, Roger Varian's colt has made plenty of headway this term.

A maiden success over a mile at Nottingham served notice of his potential, while his second over 10 furlongs at Ascot last month was hardly head-in-hands time.

Although the winner that day, All Action, has since let down the form, Mashaaref easily held off a sustained challenge from a horse of Sir Michael Stoute's, who shaped with credit at Goodwood last time.

The three-year-old son of Cape Cross is 2lb higher for this race, but, given his age, is in receipt of plenty of weight from all but three of his rivals.

There's decent evening racing at Goodwood, where Moynahan can finally end a craven sequence of results.

Paul Cole's six-year-old, who was sixth in the 2000 Guineas three years ago, has not won since last May.

But he invariably goes well at Goodwood and showed a little flicker of promise when staying on for fourth over a furlong farther a couple of weeks ago.

Moynahan remains 3lb better off than when last successful over course and distance and also has shown fair form with a bit of underfoot ease.

Cole's representative would certainly not be winning out of turn in the Westerton Handicap.

Dr Wintringham is hardly prolific, but can be trusted to run with honour in the Kam And Sally At Breakfast Fillies' Handicap at Chepstow.

Reve Du Jour has done enough in four starts to warrant a little interest in the EBF Beverley Annual Badgeholders Maiden Fillies' Stakes on the Westwood.

Kohala will surely appreciate a return to competing against her own sex at Newbury on Friday.

David Barron has long considered this grey daughter of Kodiac to be one of the best horses at his yard in North Yorkshire.

Indeed, she has hitherto confirmed that lofty reputation with a series of solid displays, including when fifth in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot.

Kohala has now been unearthed a superb opportunity in which to strike at Listed level when she runs the gauntlet in the Bathwick Tyres St Hugh's Stakes.

Although she was just denied in the Dragon Stakes at Sandown last time, Barron would hardly have been crestfallen by the outcome.

The juvenile was in receipt of plenty of weight from all but one of her rivals, but it was no disgrace getting to within a head of Forevertheoptimist, who thrived under Kieren Fallon's powerful urgings.

Forevertheoptimist is being campaigned by Linda Stubbs as a very good horse, so it would be no surprise to see that one hurled into Pattern races towards the back-end of the season.

Kohala, for now, stays at Listed level, which seems wise as she has the stamp of being a late-developing animal.

She certainly has no shortage of speed, though, which was evident in a bloodless Redcar success in May and her honourable effort in defeat at the Royal bazaar.

Barron would not be over the moon if the heavens were to open, but Kodiac's offspring have shown a degree of promise when the mud is flying, so that might not inconvenience Kohala as much as some of her rivals here.

The fact she is already the highest-rated animal in this field could be prescient.

Harvard N Yale looked a creature of great potential on his debut, and can neatly illustrate the point when sent into battle at Newmarket.

A half-brother to the decent US campaigner Lady Digby, Jeremy Noseda clearly thinks the world of this Smart Strike colt, who retains an entry in the National Stakes and the Royal Lodge.
