LYONS IS FUTURE PROOF IN DESMOND

Future Generation (3-1) proved very hard to pass as she dug deep to land the Desmond Stakes at Leopardstown.

Successful twice in handicap company this year, the Ger Lyons-trained filly was a fine second last time out in the Minstrel Stakes, and was soon at the head of affairs under Keagan Latham in this Group Three contest.

Moran Gra tried to take her on rounding the home turn, with Johnny Murtagh on even-money favourite Emiyna winding his mount up to challenge a furlong out.

But while Emiyna was slowly narrowing the gap, she was never quite going to get there and Future Generation had three-quarters of a length in hand at the line.

Lyons said: "That's grand. She's all heart and a lovely filly. She has been improving all summer and the whole idea was to get black type with her.

"She wasn't 100% right last time. It looked a very hot race on paper. I thought I would declare her and see. When I saw the race I thought she had a chance of winning.

"I knew she wouldn't let us down. It's nice to win a Group Three with her and it's very important for Ennistown Stud, the breeders."
