James Fanshawe would not prevent his two sprint stars Society Rock and Deacon Blues locking horns in next month's Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock if both horses remain in good form.
Society Rock is already a proven Group One performer having landed the Golden Jubilee at Royal Ascot in June and he followed that up with a highly creditable second in Sunday's Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville.
His stablemate won the Wokingham Stakes at the Royal meeting but has looked much better than a handicapper since, scoring at Newbury and landing a Curragh Group Three by seven lengths at the weekend.
Fanshawe is keen to stress neither horse is being committed to a run on Merseyside and he will see how the pair progress between now and September 3.
"Both horses are fine and both cantered this morning. They seem to be in good form," said Fanshawe.
"You have to treat horse individually and we'll just see how each horse is in a couple of weeks time.
"Society Rock's best form so far has been at Ascot so it was nice to see him run such a good race away from there. Deacon Blues has won his last two races well and I'm looking forward to stepping him up again.
"The only thing with him is the ground as he wouldn't want to be running on firm.
"I'm not going to say they will both run at Haydock. They'll be treated as individuals and we'll see how they are closer to the time, but I wouldn't prevent the two from running should they both be in good form.
"Over six furlongs the two races left over here are the Haydock race and the Diadem Stakes at Ascot."
